Until now I've been building street Hawks with the standard 153x1 camshaft, and reserving the #9 grind for the racers. My data from the racers suggested there were no downsides to using it, strong midrange power with excellent top end. Sort've like the best points of the 153x1 and 174x8 combined. So, it was time to try it in a street engine. As you can see, the results were stellar. The chart shows the bike as delivered with a full low M4 system, Uni pods and Factory 3.0 jet kit. (run .003) I installed my 700 lightweight pistons, the #9 cams, and stage 2 heads with 28mm intake valves. She runs... hard! The bottom end is stock so the owner will have to show some restraint, sort've like the old fighter planes with "cruise," "takeoff," and "emergency war power" throttle settings. :) Where the 153x1 signs off starting about 8000 rpm, the #9 keeps sailing on to the limiter, nicely plateauing the last 500 rpm. Excellent.
